“Everything that I’ve ever done I can still relate to, and feel connected to it in a way. There’s no part of my life that I look at and go, ‘I don’t recognize that person at all.”
― Ian Mckaye
I came across a quote the other day, about not being ashamed of your work. At some moment in time this body of work gives life to an experience, something I went through. It freezes the moment in time, evoking similar emotions whenever revisited.
I’m at the point were I won’t say its shame but more so judging… Guess when it all boils down to it, its all just fear. Fear of my work not being good enough, nor coming out the way I envisioned. Or even worse, messing up and having to start over.
So its an on going process of reminding myself, although I’m not ideally where I want to be & not producing my best quality of work. I keep in mind that’s how I get better, just keep working. Build on my craft, nobody is great when they’re first starting out.
Thats what’s so magical about art & engrossing one’s self in their craft. Sure it may not come out exactly as envisioning, but always leave wiggle room. Allow yourself permission to slip up, recover and find your way again. Keeping in mind imperfections means character, and the spontaneity challenges lead to fun.

So we made it, well into the new year and hopefully our new routines. I’ve been working diligently on shaking off a lot of bad habits I picked up over time. We’re about 3 weeks in so some may be starting to feel a bit sluggish and falling back into the comfort of old habits…. DON’T!! sure our comfort zone is a cool place, but nothing ever grows there.
For 2017 and beyond lets drop the barrier and live! Do something a bit challenging everyday, something to better us little by little. When we have a big task at hand break it down and focus on smaller portions it wont be as overwhelming. And before we know it that big task will be accomplished and we’ll have another notch under our belt.
Here are some things I be working on for the year.
- Start to create garments for clients -Sharping my entrepreneurial skills
- Improve and dedicate more time to my Illustrations
- be a consistent blogger
- get more familiar with my camera – taking a photography class, so ill be stepping it up
- Focus on time management
- Continue to be interactive with other bloggers
My goal for 2017 is to live without barriers and limitations i put on myself. I want to improve my focus and maintain my momentum on being proactive. So, feel free to stop in, share life experiences and let’s motivate one another.
Happy & productive 2017 everyone
