πŸŽ‰πŸΎπŸΎ#TwentyFine πŸΎπŸΎπŸŽ‰

This whole month I have been wrapped up in My BDAY Celebrations I had such a blast. Not just for my birthday but all my Aquarius β™’ peeps, January has been eventful & never disappoints.

Going out to lovely dinners and enjoying nice ambiance of a sushi seafood buffet (really interesting concept I haven’t experienced til recently). Going out to celebrate life every minute of everyday. That’s really one thing I’m gong to keep in mind for 2017 and thereafter; Celebrate life, each & every moment.

16466693_10101653974109817_788846625_oSaw Hidden Figures during the week, definitely a must see. The way we bounce back in the face of adversity. We find joy in complete misery our resilience is like no other. Full of nothing but inspiration and pride, exactly what #BlackGirlMagic is all about.

The thing i love about inspiring films like this is it awakens the greatness in us all. I came across a quote the other day while reading “how wonderful is God to have made the mountains and all the depths of the seas, to actually notice that what this world also needed was a you, what was missing was also a me.” All I’m saying is although you may meet people who you feel do things a bit “better” than you, keep doing you. Cause no one can be you, so keep at it and it will lead you to your greatness.

As I look back at my garments and experiences I see my BlackGirlMagic starting to shine through. And i LOVE it, confidence in my abilities is growing and my Melanin Poppin’

Over the last weekend I took a nice weekend ski trip. It was great to get away for a while, temporary check out from the bitter side of “adulthood” responsibilities, BILLS!!! I had so much fun, but it flew by too quick. Seemed as though in a blink of an eye it was over.

16466788_10101652789548687_1959269081_oI created a bikini for my trip, so was ecstatic at the outcome. With every garment i create I’m able to see just how far I’ve come from when i first started sewing.

I made a tribal High-waist Β Cut out bikini with black trim. Was a bit nervous for the bottoms due to this time it was eye-balled. The trim wasn’t even part of the original concept but i wanted to break up the print a bit and felt the broader, besides serve as a clean finish would help define the space. Instead of using the tribal print for the strap that goes around the neck, I opted for black tying in both the top & bottom and to frame the face.Β 16389411_10101652789488807_2129760389_oI was in the fabric store trying to decide between this or a reddish print that transitioned to a purple hue, I’m glad I went with this one. Maybe next time I’ll go with a solid.

16409321_10101652788890007_29531598_o.pngΒ This weekend made me realize I haven’t bought a swimsuit in about 8 years, every time I need to hit the water I make my own. That in itself makes me filled with liberation, knowing that whatever I envision I possess the skills to create and able to wear. Few years back I would walk into stores and after never finding what I had in mind on the racks, use to wish I could make it myself. So its mind blowing seeing what I can accomplish now, so I’m celebrating this small victory as well as all others that come my way. It’s been a long time coming Β but my hard work and dedication is taking me there.

As always, Thanks for stopping by peeps

Drape Success πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜„

I don’t usually post my progress with Draping because its so tedious & its a lot to try to explain over a typed text…… But some times when you do exceptionally well & surprise yourself, you just have to tell someone. Well all you someone’s I have great newsπŸŽ‰πŸ™ŒπŸ˜Š.

We were working on draping a blazer, & life has left me feeling a bit overwhelmed these past weeks. But I stuck it out {& so glad i did.} Gaining more motivation after each stage of the drape.

image

This was right after I created the lapel, but right before all the difficulty of the collar set in.

I’m draping a 4 panel blazer

Back view, with collar pinned & semi rolled.
I would have to say the part I found the most challenging was the collar.

There’s a fashion show coming up next month, thinking about constructing this blazer, or one similar. Because I’m so excited about the whole thing. I really want to see how it would like fully done & on a model.

πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰Progress πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

Its always awesome seeing progression on things you’ve been working so hard to achieve. & I for one am super pleased πŸ˜„πŸ˜Š Im getting better with facial expressions, it wasn’t that long ago I would feel the facial features I illustrated were {lack of a better word} bad.
image

Most times I would just avoid them, not even bother with an attempt. But after dedicating the appropriate time to, researching different techniques, & countless YouTube videos…. I really started bettering my craft. Which is so satisfying, I am elated with progress. Truly can’t say it enough.

Which reminds me of this fabulous quote:

So as I walk down memory lane with these illustrations & rejoice over the development of my skills. I have such strong faith for where it may lead me.

Presentation Prep. Collection I

Presentation prep.

image

Gearing up for my presentation later this week. I’m showing illustrations for a collection. & the biggest huddle is color rendering. The print fabric is satin, & probably the biggest challenge is doing the appreciate downsize of the print.

I’m using mix media on each girl. The first croquis is primarily marker.
image
Her hair however is color pencil. Its a bit rougher than usual because I haven’t work in marker for some time.

The original was fully in color pencil, but I got the sense of moody & sad.
image
& decided to scape this image & keep the marker.
image
My second image is a halter top with a key hole cut out, & slack made from the print. For her face I switched it up & used ink. I am a lot more pleased with using the fineness of the ink to capture the facial details. I always used ink on some of the braided bun of the hair
image
For both the 2nd & 3rd image I used color pencil & ink for the face. Its a work in progress but I’m really loving the results. Feel really confident about this one πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜„

Have a great day 😊

Kuba Love 😍😍

Stumbled on these gems 😍😍😍 both are made out of Kuba cloth. The Kuba people adorn their garments with shells which is their currency. Kuba Kingdom is located in Central Africa, bordering Dem. Republic of the Congo.

& the cape doubles as a skirt, this deal just gets better & better 😄

I love gaining insight through experience,  especially when I’m learning through fashion. I am over the moon about these eclectic pieces. The fact that it encourages me to dive in & take a clearer look. I want to learn what’s the symbolism for the position of all the arrows, diamonds, fine lines etc. I want to research, learn about it all.

My excitement at this point is apparent. & whatever I find I sure will share with everyone
