Blessings for my new yr

My birthday was last month and I’m still assessing my intentions for my new yr. I had a birthday photoshoot featuring some of my latest designs and it was such a moment of pride for me.

The photoshoot meant a bit more to than my personal new year, but also everything that happened thus far that got to this point. Honestly I’ve never been one to celebrate my own victories, but that ends now. I’m making it a point to take a moment not only for praise but to reflect as well. I mean even if I wanted to take a pause to do a little victory dance theres nothing wrong with that either, it’s about time I celebrate the frustrations I overcome. Every moment counts #NoteToSelf πŸ“

The inspiration pulled for my Peau de Soie Satin gown, was #Garnet has the power to bestow eternal happiness, health and wealth, this #Aquarius birthstone develops confidence and self- esteem into the life of the wearer resulting in success and fulfilment of all desires.

My second look was an Ankara bustier complete with boning complimented with skirt pattern cutouts all thoughout.

This Ankara skirt was so much fun!! One of my top garments I ever enjoyed designing.

I will sure some intentions I currently have for my new year:

1. Continue to celebrate my personal victories, both large and small

2. Remain focused in all aspects of my creative process

3. TRUST THE PROCESS!!!

Drape Success πŸ™ŒπŸŽ‰πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜„

I don’t usually post my progress with Draping because its so tedious & its a lot to try to explain over a typed text…… But some times when you do exceptionally well & surprise yourself, you just have to tell someone. Well all you someone’s I have great newsπŸŽ‰πŸ™ŒπŸ˜Š.

We were working on draping a blazer, & life has left me feeling a bit overwhelmed these past weeks. But I stuck it out {& so glad i did.} Gaining more motivation after each stage of the drape.

This was right after I created the lapel, but right before all the difficulty of the collar set in.

I’m draping a 4 panel blazer

Back view, with collar pinned & semi rolled.
I would have to say the part I found the most challenging was the collar.

There’s a fashion show coming up next month, thinking about constructing this blazer, or one similar. Because I’m so excited about the whole thing. I really want to see how it would like fully done & on a model.

Draping Horrors 😱😱

After having such a huge “step back” {which felt more like the ultimate setback}, with draping these pants. I was so frustrated and over everything.

In class, i got up to the part of changing the dart into a yoke & decided to put the front & back of the pants leg together before clipping the back to attach the yoke….. & That. Was. When. Disaster Hit {pause for dramatic effect}

Before I even put the pant on the dress form, the side seam of the front was going up as the back layed straight. I initially thought there may have been an error due to me rushing, so I decided to undo it & assemble it on the form. {Didn’t get any better} in fact, it got worst!! The grains {Grains= the threads of the fabric} were pulling every direction, fabric wasn’t laying flat & was extremely tight. {I’m making tapered pants}.

It was a complete mess. I know you must be thinking why didn’t I take a picture, would be a lot easier to explain…. Which definitely is true, but I was so flustered & aggravated I took the whole thing off and left. Was so bummed nothing added up & would have to start the whole thing over. I was PISSED 😈.

So that was yesterday, {brighter days} Today 🌞. I prepared the muslin, took my time {more like the appropriate time, this is due on Tues. After all πŸ˜‚} & proceeded to drape. Figuring out where I went wrong which was pulling both sides of the fabric against the form. Instead of gently gliding my hand to feel for the side seams.

Today’s progress is so much better & I feel a lot better about the pants. Have a deeper understanding of tapered, skinny jeans & pants as a whole.

& believe me I have enough horrors with pants to fill up a trilogy set of novels, cover to cover.
So glad I stuck with it, didn’t give up & learned so much through my experience.

As always thanks for stopping
